It’s been so long….

Lucy on Victoria

Things have started to settle down a bit with my new job, and I really feel like I need to start being more active with my photography. I’ve been on a bit of a break for several months now.

Last weekend a family that we met in Arizona stopped by on a cross country trip from Oregon to Maine. They brought their dog, Victoria, and our kids absolutely loved her. Except Stella. But that’s another story entirely. Victoria was a fantastic dog. Very well behaved, quiet, and good with the kids. They were sad to see her go.

A Tale of Two Cameras

Lucy modeling for me.

I’m at a bit of a crossroads right now with respect to photography. You see, I like to use black and white film. I have made the decision that I’m done with my Pentax K1000, and it is time to replace it. And that’s where my dilemma lies.

I could get a Canon EOS film body (the EOS-3, to be exact) and then I’d get to re-use my lenses whether shooting digital or film. Very sensible. The one tiny issue is that, see, it’s fully automatic. Just like my digital. I’d sort of like to keep my film experience very, uh, non-automatic. In a discussion over the weekend, the suggestion was made to simply turn all that off and shoot fully manual. It’s a good theory, but I know myself well enough to know that I wouldn’t. I just couldn’t.

My other option is get a different camera. Like a medium format “different” camera. Probably a TLR as I’m cost sensitive. One problem is that my consumables cost really starts to take off. Medium format film is much more expensive than the bulk 35mm I’m using now. Another point is that, unless I get a Mamiya, I’m only using one lens forever on my medium format. Not the end of the world, but still….

I guess logically I would say “Get the Canon EOS body,” but there’s a side of me that wants to get a medium format rig and take it for a whirl.

And meanwhile, indecision is decision.

Playing around the lake

Bumps and Bruises

There were a few bumps and bruises, but luckily nothing serious. Here Lily got a cut while swimming, most likely from a shell on the bottom of the lake.

Elation

Lucy really enjoyed getting pushed on the swing by her uncle. She’s right at the age where she’s too big for these swings, but remembers them longingly. The swing is attached very securely and Lucy got to go “Super High.”

The Lake At Night

Finally, there were even a few minutes for a night time shot of the lake. Looks calm, but I was getting eaten alive!

Tomorrow, baseball.

Lucy’s Shoes

Lucy’s shoes

Lucy has been sick today. She’s perky and animated one minute, throwing up the next. Since she was sick, she got to stay up a bit later and watch T.V. It made her day. Without a doubt, that’s her favorite activity. A genuine television junkie, that one.

Hopefully this will be a quick bout and tomorrow will have her back to full health.

Lucy and Ollie

And now for something completely different….

Lucy’s preschool has a traveling stuffed owl named Ollie. Along with Ollie comes a binder with a single page written by (the parents of) each child that had Ollie.

This is what we put together for Lucy.

I recognize that while we normally yell at her to stop jumping on her bed, I specifically asked her to do just that for this picture. Life is full of contradictions, isn’t it?
