In Knots

_MG_7188-Edit

I’m not sure what to say about these pictures. There’s simply something about the rope and knots that I find interesting. Maybe it’s the graphic nature? Allegorical statement? Who knows….

Why do we pay for toys?

Playing with toilet paper

Honestly, why do we spend the money? This is a picture of my 3 oldest girls playing with toilet paper (clean, mind you) in the living room. They were using it like streamers and just having a blast.

And Lily has it wrapped in her hair pretending to be a queen.

Who knew that toilet paper could be so fun?

Night Clouds

Looking North at Night

The weather has been working for me photographically lately. First the double rainbows and now the moving clouds. Our house is near a major interstate highway, and I believe that the orange reflected on the bottom of the clouds is from both Champaign proper and the headlights of the cars.

Looking East at Night

I don’t usually do a whole lot of night photography, but I do follow a bit of it online. The ones that I like have a different color to them. It’s hard to explain, but these pictures captured just a bit of that. There are odd blues and oranges and such. It’s just different.

Norah at 3 months

Norah

We decided to have an impromptu photo session for Norah this past Sunday. She’s now almost 4 months old, and experience tells us that this is a good time to get some good baby pictures.

These are my favorite “selects.” I’ve not edited this pictures, as evidenced by the background in the first two. Once we decide which we’re going to print, then I’ll do a final edit and clean up.

Double Rainbows

Double Rainbows

Odd weather here in Champaign lately. This past weekend we saw a double rainbow looking out our backyard. The bottom rainbow was as complete as I’ve ever seen one. I used the widest lens I’ve got (17mm) and still couldn’t get it all in frame.

This, naturally, led to a series of rainbow pictures….

Summer Weather

House and clouds near sunset

Another kooky one. We’ve been getting storms lately, and with the storms come lots of cloud cover. They’ve been really impressive lately. Dark gray bottoms with golden sides as the twilight hits them. I always want to take pictures, but it’s always a fool’s folly; they all just look like boring old clouds after I’ve taken ’em. I’m sure that a better photographer than I can manage to capture the grandeur, but I can’t seem to.

But still, you have to try, right?

Tree in Window in Window

Tree in Window in Window

Okay, I realize that this is sort of an odd ball picture; still, I like it. Maybe it’s the texture of the cloud reflection on the right? Not sure, but it works for me.

This is a picture of a window in our house with a tree and clouds reflecting in it. Also, you can see another window on the opposite side of the house.

Bad network, Bad!

Bad network!

Just a quick grab with the phone. I picture a wagging finger in my mind’s eye.

Reprocessing my boat

Yesterday I posted “Boat as Bow.” Burstmode, who takes absolutely beautiful flower photographs, commented. While I can’t retake the picture (it’s a long car ride back to Shawano), I can reprocess in Lightroom. So, here’s the reprocessed version.

And here is the original next to the reprocessed:

Original Reprocessed

When I compare the two side by side, I tend to like the reprocessed better. But, the original is more like what I remember, sort of (isn’t memory a funny thing). It was early morning when I took the photo, and there wasn’t that much contrast.

It all comes down to this being a matter of intent, right? I feel the original is more “accurate” to what I saw but the reprocessed has more punch. I have to say, I’m torn on this one. I’m not a “purist” by any stretch of the imagination. But, the mood I was trying to capture (whether I captured it or not is another debate) in the original seems wiped away with the higher contrast of the reprocessed photo.

Still, I like the reprocessed picture. Well, no one ever said you couldn’t contradict yourself. Any thoughts, ideas, or comments?

Boat as Bow

Boat as Bow

This image makes me think of a bow when I see it. I’m not entirely sure that I composed this as optimally as possible though. Use more negative space? Don’t cut off the reflection of the mast? Hmmm.
